My first visit to New Mills Farm was with my dad, mum, sister and myself. I must had been about 9 or somewhere around that age. My usual first task was to mow the back and front lawn with the petrol lawn mower. This was great fun and I enjoyed it immensely. Then later in the day would be to go and bring the cows down from the field they were in to the yard outside the milking parlour ready to be milked. I enjoyed watching the cows being milked and then washing the parlour down afterwards. In the evening we would play board games in the kitchen at the table. My favourite game was Cluedo.
When I was 11 I remember cutting the front lawn and Maureen was asleep in her pram. I remembered looking in and thinking how pretty she looks fast asleep!
Another memory was when I was staying on the farm and I was helping to collect the eggs from one of the chicken huts with David and Margaret. I was carrying about 6 trays of eggs and Margaret was picking up the eggs and placing them on the trays I was holding. Meanwhile David was behind me on the other side of the hut. He thought he would have a bit of fun with me so one of the chickens he decided was past laying eggs so he wrung it's neck and threw it over so that it landed behind me. I heard this great noise and schreeching behind me. I looked behind and saw this dead chicken flapping behind me. It made me jump but fortunately I did not drop one egg. I said to David you nearly lost all your profit then, he laughed. It was good to have a laugh and joke good humoured fun!
